Equipment

For kids lacrosse in Chicago, CYL suggests sticking with quality brand name gear like STX, Brine, Warrior and Cascade.  Quality gear will provide the safety and protection each Chicago Youth Lacrosse player deserves and needs.

STX, Brine and Warrior are the main manufacturers of lacrosse equipment. Cascade makes great helmets and eyewear…

NO RENTAL GEAR
CYL will not be renting gear for two reasons. First and foremost, health concerns. MRSA, which can be fatal, is becoming more and more of a concern for athletes and parents alike. And secondly, gear that fits properly will allow the player to be more comfortable playing the game which is essential when learning a new sport or to take your game to the next level.

Boys

Boys are required to have their own stick, helmet, gloves, arm pads, shoulder pads, mouth piece and protective cup. No leg gear is needed. Soccer or football cleats are the appropriate footwear. A lacrosse stick is also needed. Goalies use a wider stick than normal, please contact CYL or PIAS for further help with goalies.

*For first time players, hockey equipment (helmet, shoulder and arm pads) can be substituted for boys just picking up the game, prior to making the commitment to lacrosse and its needed specific equipment. After a short period of time they will need lacrosse specific equipment due to the speed and mobility needed in lacrosse that hockey equipment can hinder.

Girls
Girls are required to wear eye protection/goggle and mouth guards. Girls also need lacrosse sticks. Girl’s sticks differ from boy’s sticks slightly in that girl’s sticks have no real pocket. Soccer cleats are the appropriate footwear. Goalies use a wider stick than normal, please contact CYL or PIAS.
